Patch testing, second edition 1994

Cover second edition of Patch Testing
second edition of
patch testing, 1994

The second Edition of Patch Testing was published in 1994, 8 years after the previous one, by Elsevier Science B.V., Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The book was very well received by the dermatological community and was recommended in various Book Reviews in dermatological journals. Here are some examples of book reviews:

American Journal of Contact Dermatitis, 1995;2:130

'In an age of burgeoning medical publications, few are unique. However, the second edition of this book is. This book would be worth its cover price for its chemical synonyms alone..... In addition to almost 1,000 more chemicals, the second edition of this book has a format that makes it much more accessible than the first edition. The print is clear, the binding is superb, and I found no typographical errors...Few books are essential in medical practice. If you perform patch testing at all, you should own this book.'

'The 1st edition of this book (1986) was so useful that it was stolen from our Contact Dermatitis Clinic a year or two ago and we have missed it enormously ever since. To the relief of us all, the 2nd edition has now appeared and we should really chain it to the wall this time. No dermatologist who does any patch testing at all should be without a copy, because it is simply the most comprehensive and reliable guide to correct patch test concentrations available. The 2nd edition has been significantly updated and is therefore worthy of purchase even by those who have managed to hang on to their copy of the 1st edition. Superbly turned out for rapid reference, this is yet another classic winner from the De Groot stable. My only caveat would be to consider buying 2 copies, so that one can be kept under lock-and-key for consultation whenever the one on the open shelf is 'borrowed'.

Journal of Dermatological Science 1995;9:74

'When I read the first edition of 'Patch Testing' written by A.C. de Groot in 1986, I felt that this book was quite essential for all dermatologists who had interests in contact allergy. Since then, it was my most useful dictionary and a constant guide, which I had on my desks at both the clinic and the office. The revised edition of 'Patch Testing' has recently been published, showing test concentrations and vehicles for 3700 chemicals (previously 2800 allergens). It is much richer in content than the first edition, and much easier to read... Addition of cosmetic ingredients, imidazoles and commercially available allergens will also serve the reader. Finally, I send him my words of praise for his great efforts, and will be looking forward to the appearance of the third edition, because many new allergens will keep appearing in the future...'

'..D'un abord simple, ce livre est indispensable à toute consultation spécialisée en dermato-allergologie ; il évite les erreurs lors des tests et les revues de la littérature toujours longues et difficiles.'
